The Inauguration in Israel of the MUS-E Activities. MUS-E is a program of the International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation (IYMF) focusing on Arts at School

The aim of this Conference is to share and disseminate recent ideas regarding research and pedagogical practices in Advancing Children (at-risk, challenged, immigrant, and gifted) through the Arts (Music, Art, Theater).
The conference program committee welcomes keynote speaker, Dick Deasy, director of Arts Education Partnerships, Washington D.C., and distinguished speakers from abroad (listed alphabetically): Jeanne Bamberger, Professor Emerita, MIT; Frederique Chabaud, Director of the IYMF; Kylie Peppler, Professor of Education, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.; Marianne Poncelet, Secretary General of the IYMF; and Werner Schmitt, Director Konservatorium Bern, Switzerland, and IYMF Board Member.

The program will include concerts performed by young artists from Israel and abroad, and an art exhibition sponsored by the Nachum Gutman Museum, Jaffa.

The organizing committee invites artists, educators, therapists, researchers, lawyers, policy makers, and community workers to submit papers on empirical research, philosophical and theoretical issues, and models of practice related to the following topics:

Promoting intercultural dialogue through the study of the Arts
The Arts and brain research
Arts as a tool for the development of cognitive skills, self-efficacy, and interpersonal communication
Links between the Arts and core school subjects, e.g. music and math, music and language
Rehabilitation of children and young people through the Arts

Guidelines for submitting abstracts:

  1. Abstracts are not to exceed 200 words
  2. The top of the first page shall include the name, affiliation, position, and complete address, including telephone and fax nos. and e-mail address of the person(s) submitting the proposal.
  3. The abstract must be submitted in MS Word sent via email to one of the conference Chairpersons: Dr. Adena Portowitz, portowiz@mail.biu.ac.il or Dr. Danielle Gurevitch, gurevid@mail.biu.ac.il.
  4. Conference Languages: English and Hebrew
