Music is a Journey
Lord Menuhin's Foreword
Programme

Presented by Yehudi Menuhin and Ravi Shankar, this concert was the story of a journey, which began in India. It was the story of nomads hunted down because of their differences. A story of resignation and ecstasy expressed by different types of music which, though separated geographically, are united through their rhythm and movements and make us think we are all brothers with a single language: that of dreamers, of nomads, the hunted, the adventurers, those who courted beneath the stars and heard the voice of their hearts.

In this context the Gypsies are perhaps those who have the best understanding of the human soul through their long journeying, their suffering and their eternal wandering. They are not the only ones. Other peoples have known the same fate and still experience it today, perhaps more than ever.

Yehudi Menuhin and Ravi Shankar welcome on stage Gypsies and non-Gypsies in order to remind us that the song which comes from the far distant past must gather us all together: we all share this story of humanity searching its way through emotions, of which music is the most beautiful of incarnations.

The concert ended with the image of a woman, Blanca del Rey, who was able to create a synthesis of all the influences that passed through Andalusia.
