Visit to MUS-E® School, Frankfurt

On May 16th, in the framework of the IMC, members of the IMC were given the opportunity to visit the Berthold Otto Schule located in Frankfurt, and take part in a MUS-E class.

This school is mainly a focus school, located in an economically challenged neighbourhood.

The MUS-E® session was led by visual artist Mili Giacomelli, who was working on several stop-motion videos with a class of 3rd graders. The children were split into groups who all had a name and a different story, written 100% by the children. The story was then illustrated by them during previous sessions. This session was centred on the stop motion part: each group of children were given a tablet with a special stop motion programme, and were shown how to use it, supervised by an adult. The groups dispersed in several empty rooms to work on their project. They then all gathered in their class to look at what eah group had made, encouraging and applauding each other. The children then showed their playground to the IMC members, and the president of MUS-E Brasil, Jailson Santos, made a capoeira demonstration with the children.

Meeting MUS-E® children and seeing MUS-E® artists in action is always such an enriching experience which helps us elaborate future plans for the network, with those who make it alive in mind.
