AL DI LA DI NOI Concert and Gala dinner – 9 December 2019 – Theatre of Hotel Le Plaza, Brussels
The International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation has partnered with Outhere Music and MUS- E Italia to offer a music residency from 9 to 15 September 2019 in the Salento region of Apulia in southern Italy.
The residency closed with a concert on Sunday 15 September in Alessano in the context of the Muse Salentine Festival, with the aim of raising awareness among the population of Salento of the social inclusion of children from all cultures through art in schools, as proposed by the Foundation’s MUS-E programme.
The concept of this residency was to revisit some of the repertoires dear to Yehudi Menuhin by including elements of traditional music and doing this by bringing together classical musicians and musicians from Italian folk tradition.
The repertoire included composers Yehudi Menuhin particularly appreciated, such as Johann Sebastian Bach. For example, it revisited the concerto for two violins BWV 1043 and Partita III for solo violin. It also explored the world of jazz that our Maestro discovered through his friendship with Stéphane Grappelli, revisiting Grappelli’s “Ballade” and “Rolls” as well as “Minor Swing” by Django Reinhardt, and even rediscovering the seductive world of Astor Piazzolla.
The result of this exceptional residency was in Brussels on 9 December at the Plaza Theatre in order to close the tribute to Yehudi Menuhin by associating Belgian and European artists in this voyage through diverse musical cultures.
